Canadian Identity 9U

This week's lesson will have you looking at Canada's involvement in World War II. It is video-based and is testimonials and accounts from World War II veterans. This is an important Social Studies skill, being able to listen to, and get information from a primary source.

There is also an opportunity, if this interests you, to take it further and look at other stories and accounts from this time period. These have been provided as extra if you so wish.

This week's assignments will deal with Trial and Judicial Proceedings including an examination of juries. We will also look at the rules of evidence, the types, and what may be used in court.

Part 7a is a lengthy read with a short Check Your Understanding and an assignment at the end with 3 small mini-essays.

Part 7b is a shorter read with an assignment at the end. Gauge your time accordingly.

I have also included the "Try Judging" resource which has relevant passages pertaining to each of this week's topics.

Law 120

This week's home learning topics include:

  • Search & Arrest Warrants
  • The Legal Process
  • Court Procedure - Officers of the Court
  1. I might suggest that you start with Week 6b - Legal Process & Court Procedure; it is a reasonable amount of reading and the only work for you to do is complete 2 small 'Check Your Understanding' matching exercises.
  2. Week 6a - Search & Arrest Warrants has a fair amount of reading and an activity that IS NOT FOR SUBMISSION called 'Legal Process: Case Studies.'  These Case studies all have questions associated that I would like you to think about and attempt to answer; you may check your answers against the last document I've attached, "Week 6a - Search & Arrest Warrants - expert opinion"
  3. There IS an assignment to hand in, however for Week 6a about Search & Arrest Procedures.

Canadian Identity 9U

Home Learning this week takes a big leap in history from last week's look at Confederation (1867) up to World War I. There seems to be a lot of reading, but if you break it up into 6 small half hour sessions as I suggest, it is very easy and will serve to give you a great overview of this time period in history.

The chart to complete is included with the package below; you can just type into the boxes to make the notes as you read. Its a ready made graphic organizer.
