Language Arts 8C

Tues. May 19th  – Fri. May 22nd  

1.     Read 20 minutes silently everyday.

2.     Read and respond to this week’s Common Lit assignments. 

  • a.      Examination day” (science fiction)
  • b.     Someone Might Be Watching – An Introduction to Dystopian Fiction” (informational text). 

3.     Writing Activites: Please respond to this in a paragraph each and submit to me via emaila.      After having read the 2nd CommonLit assignment:

  • watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTyyKROkC3E and then,
  • respond to the following writing assignment: Which dystopian themes identified by Ostergaard in the text are also explored in the movie clip? Think about how the characters dress and the political system that is in place.

4.     Complete ANY 2 of the attached options for Quickwrites this week (I have one listed for every day and while you are free to do it every day for 5 minutes (go for longer if you wish…but don’t go past 15minutes), aim for 2.  Feel free to share these with me via email, Microsoft Teams or on our weekly call. I encourage you to share your writing with somebody at home too.

Explanatory Wednesday:

The Chinese celebrate New Year with a dragon dance. How do you celebrate New Year? What other special days do you observe? In an essay, explain a celebration or ritual that you know about. Tell what is usually done and why. Explain it to a reader who is new to the event.
