Mr. Sturgeon

Welcome To Our Page

Here is the suggested daily activity for middle school and grade 9 students. As always, this suggested activity can be replaced with any indoor or outdoor activity of your choosing, as long as it is increasing your heart rate! Today is Earth Day, so I am also recommending you take some additional time outside today to connect with nature. Go for a hike, climb a tree, pick up some garbage out of this ditch, anything that gives you a little appreciation for nature!

Today's suggested workout is called the "Heidi Hero" workout. It is 6 exercises that you complete 23 reps of each time. Your goal is to complete the circuit of exercises as many times as possible in 23 minutes. Take breaks between exercises as you see fit, but try and get as many sets as you can!

Have a great day everyone!

Here are today's suggested PE/Wellness activities. As always, you can replace these activities with some indoor or outdoor activities of your choice!
Today, in celebration of earth day, I am recommending the daily activities from the BOKS activity calendar. The morning burst is call the "Earth Day Burst". You can follow this up with the live BOKS class on their FB page at 1pm, which I shared yesterday and will share again. Finally, you can take some time for the yoga/mindfulness activity of the day, which is the "Mindful Breaths" activity. Put together, this is a great, and well rounded, set of activities for the day to both have some fun, get your heart rate up, and stay grounded.

All of the resources for the activity calendar were in may post from yesterday, and can also be accessed from the "Recent Files" section on the right have side of this page.

Also, if you haven't gotten a chance to try the tree climbing challenge from yesterday's post, today would be a great day to try, since it is Earth Day!

Have a great day folks!

Good morning everyone,

Here is a suggested daily workout for middle school and grade 9 students. Of course, you can always replace this suggestion with an indoor or outdoor activity of your choice, as long as you are either getting your heart rate up, or practicing some mindfulness or relaxation.

Today;s workout is called "Larry lost his barbell" and it is a countdown workout where you will begin with 10 reps of an exercise, then move on to 10 reps of each of the next exercises. Then when you get back to the first exercise, you will do 9 reps, 8, 7, 6 and so on. This one can be intense, so don't be scared to take a few breaks throughout the workout.

Have fun!

I want to share a resource for you for today's daily activity suggestion. This resource is a monthly at home activity guide put out by BOKS Canada. BOKS is a school based activity program with tons of quick hitting activities and games, as well as structured fitness activities focused on keeping the attention of students. I have attended a couple of sessions at national conferences put on by BOKS, and they are extremely passionate and resourceful.
In this monthly activity guide, each day's activities are broken down into 3 parts. You begin with a quick BOKS burst warm-up activity in the morning. Then, each day at noon EST, 1pm AST they go live on their facebook page to do a live fitness class (I will post the link). Then, after each live class they finish off with a yoga and mindfulness activity. Each day as a whole give you a fun warm-up, a slightly more intense session to get your heart rate up, and finishes with some mindfulness to reconnect yourself! I will post the package with the monthly fitness calendar, as well as descriptions of all of the bursts, and yoga/mindfulness activities. This is a great resource, and while my daily suggestions may not always be from BOKS, you can always have it as a resource for your students to use instead of my daily suggestions.
So, today's daily PE/Wellness activity suggestion will be today's BOKS activities! For today, the BOKS burst is the "Colors in the room" burst, and the yoga/mindfulness activity is the "Warrior 2 pose". I recommend you tune into the page at 1pm to check out the live session, and I believe you can also access the live session after it is finished throughout the day.

For your outdoor option, I am going to share a quick video put out by one of our Phys. Ed Leads, Paul McKinnon. He is recommending we get outside, reconnect with nature and simply climb a tree! Of course, while climbing we are also following all of the PE guidelines for safety, which he outlines in the video... have a look!
Good Morning Everyone!

Congrats to Lainey Hallihan Ashley Hallihan on winning last weeks "Weekly Wellness Challenge"!

As mentioned in the video a few minutes ago, this weeks challenge is going to be....

Learning how to JUGGLE! Sounds crazy, and hard, and complicated I know. But the process for learning how to juggle is a great exercise in hand-eye coordination, and perseverance! The video I am going to post is a great and simple step by step tutorial to learning how to complete a 3 ball juggle. You will quickly learn that in order to learn to juggle, you will need to learn how to deal with failure. You are going to drop the balls, you are going to mess up, and that's ok! Learning to fail is almost as important as learning the skill. Stick with it, focus, practice, and you will get it!

This is a fun one, I'm really looking forward to seeing you all give this a try!

Be creative, stay safe, and HAVE FUN everyone!!

Here is a suggested workout for your daily PE/Wellness activity. As you know, you can also be performing your own method of PE/Wellness, as long as you are keeping a daily journal of what your activity was, and how it is effecting you, positively or negatively.

Today's workout suggestion is called "Monday Mayhem". There are 6 exercises listed. Your goal is to complete 20 reps of each exercise, and perform a total of 3 sets of each in a circuit style. This is a timed exercise, so you can take longer, or shorter breaks in between exercises. But the lower the time, the more intense your workout will be!

Enjoy!
