Mr. Sturgeon

Welcome To Our Page

Good Morning everyone,

Today's theme for our PE/Wellness activities is going to be to DANCE!! It's going to be a beautiful day, and there's no better way to start the week than to get moving to your favorite tunes! I am going to post a link to a cool dance called the "Trolls Happy Dance". It is a mix of dance moves, as well as some basic fitness movements like push ups, mountain climbers, and planks. Check it out!

You can also replace today's suggestions with some outdoor activity of your choice, just make sure you get moving, and get that heart rate up!

Good morning everyone,

I think its really important during this time to focus on mental wellness, as well as physical. I have found over the last little while that students have been particularly receptive to yoga and meditation practices. While sometimes met with some skepticism, most of the time once students are finished, they appreciate the experience. So, after over a month of this state of isolation, students may be feeling some new anxiety and stress that they have never dealt with before. Especially middle and high school students. Take some time and give this yoga practice a try. It is a flow specifically target towards releasing feeling of stress and anxiety. Parents, you are welcome to give this one a shot with your young one!

Here are today's suggestions for daily PE/Wellness activities. It's looking like another beautiful day, so these suggestions can also be replaced with some outdoor activity of your choice!

K-5:
This is a weekly tossing and catching challenge that extends on some of the activity cards posted earlier this week. You can do these activities with a partner, or you can try striking and catching off of a wall to yourself for practice. You can use any type of ball you have around the house, and you can adjust the difficulty by changing the ball that you use. A larger, lighter, or softer ball to make it more difficult, or a smaller, bouncier, or more firm ball to make it more difficult.

Grade 9:

I hope you guys are committing to your journals, as they are a great way to reflect on daily activities, and to track your progress as well. As always, you can participate in any type of activity that you like, as long as you take the time to journal the experience. For today, I suggest the "Countdown Craziness" activity. This is a circuit style with 5 exercises that will decrease in the number of reps throughout the workout. It starts with 50 reps and decreases down to 10 reps. Try and go through the 5 exercises with minimal rest between exercises. I suggest you do at least 3 rounds, with some rest between each round. You can certainly do more if you like!

3-5:

Here is the daily workout from "PE with Joe". The workouts from this channel have been great, and are all done within 30 min. The focus in today's workout is core muscles and cardio fitness, so it will get your heart pumping, and give you a great sweat!

K-2:

Today's suggested activity will be working on our individual tossing and catching skills. I will attach a set of activity cards that go through some simple progressions for tossing and catching that can be done inside or out, and with very simple and modifiable materials. This skills that are practiced in these cards are also a great fit with this week weekly challenge! My suggestion is to focus on the first 2 activity cards for Bowling and Basketball for today!

Grade 9:
As always you can complete any form of physical activity that is fulfilling for you, as long as you take the opportunity to journal about your experience.
This is today's suggested workout from "Workout with Joe" on youtube. I watched the workout at its grade for students of all ages, but it challenging enough to gave grade 9 students a good workout. Today's focus was core and lower body strength.
Middle School:
This is a cool and easy game suggested by our Phys. Ed. lead Jim Watters for all of you sports fans out there. It's called "Push-up Hockey" and its super easy and adaptable to any age. It does require a partner so challenge you brother, sister, mother or father to a game! Here is the link for a demonstration:
