Notes

Good morning everyone!

First off, thanks for the submissions from last weeks Weekly Challenge, hopefully we have some accomplished jugglers and clean ditches! I will go live around 10:30 to do the draw for this weeks app store gift card. Also, I would like to mention that this weeks gift card was generously donated by Roland Sturgeon and Melissa Sturgeon on behalf of "Stand Alone Home Improvements". The gesture is GREATLY appreciated!

Today's suggested activity was shared by one of our PE leads, Denis Boudreau. It is called "Archer" and it is a simple game that can be modified to fit what ever materials you may have available. In the video, the demonstrator uses a cool bow and arrow (foam ball) set up to play, but you can easily modify this into a overhand throwing, underhand tossing, or kicking game based on what you have to play with. Have a look!

Good morning everyone,

It's going to be a beautiful day, so I wanted to share this cool driveway game that was shared to our PE educators group. This is an adaptation to the classic game "4-Square", and only needs two people. This is a fun little activity no matter the age, and you can adapt the rules to suit your skill set (larger/smaller ball, larger/smaller play area, number of bounces to play, etc...). The video shows the game played on a paved driveway with chalk as the court, but if you don't have a paved driveway you can easily set up the court boundaries with pylons, skipping ropes, or any thing else you might have to use as a marker.

I recommend playing games to 11 or 15 points to try and encourage good rallies, and enough activity in the game to get your heart rate up.

Enjoy, and have a great day folks!

If you are unable to get outside today and are looking for an indoor activity, here is the daily workout from PE with Joe on youtube. If you follow his channel, you know that he puts out a new live workout every morning for people to follow along with, and the workouts are awesome! Today's focus was core and lower body strength. These workouts are broad enough for student's of all ages to benefit from.

Have a great day!

Just a reminder that i have set up a microsoft office Team group for our Grade 9 PE class. If you access your school email you will have received a invitation to join the group from me. I have posted the same material from my teacher page on there, as well as a simple weekly assignment on there as well. If you haven't already, please go and join the group and give me some sort of feedback that you are in there.

Thanks!

Good morning everyone,

Here is a cool game for your daily suggested PE/Wellness activity called "Socketball". It was shared to us from a PE teacher in Nova Scotia, so I thought I would share it with you all. This is a fun and simply game that is adjustable and modifiable for students of all ages from K-9. All you need for this game is some open space, 5 pairs of socks (clean preferably), a laundry basket, and something to measure and mark distance. This is a timed game, but you can modify the amount of time you have to complete the challenge, or the distance you are throwing the socks from based on age or skill level. You want the game to be challenging, but still easy enough to have some success and fun. I will post the link below. If you have any questions about how to change the game up to make it either easier, or more challenging feel free to comment on this post, or send me a message.

As always, you can replace this suggestion with any indoor or outdoor activity of your choice. The above suggestion is a good one because it can be set up inside or outside as it was in the video.

I have also attached a video of NBA star Trae Young having some fun with a similar game in his home.

Here is the suggested daily activity for middle school and grade 9 students. As always, this suggested activity can be replaced with any indoor or outdoor activity of your choosing, as long as it is increasing your heart rate! Today is Earth Day, so I am also recommending you take some additional time outside today to connect with nature. Go for a hike, climb a tree, pick up some garbage out of this ditch, anything that gives you a little appreciation for nature!

Today's suggested workout is called the "Heidi Hero" workout. It is 6 exercises that you complete 23 reps of each time. Your goal is to complete the circuit of exercises as many times as possible in 23 minutes. Take breaks between exercises as you see fit, but try and get as many sets as you can!

Have a great day everyone!

Here are today's suggested PE/Wellness activities. As always, you can replace these activities with some indoor or outdoor activities of your choice!
Today, in celebration of earth day, I am recommending the daily activities from the BOKS activity calendar. The morning burst is call the "Earth Day Burst". You can follow this up with the live BOKS class on their FB page at 1pm, which I shared yesterday and will share again. Finally, you can take some time for the yoga/mindfulness activity of the day, which is the "Mindful Breaths" activity. Put together, this is a great, and well rounded, set of activities for the day to both have some fun, get your heart rate up, and stay grounded.

All of the resources for the activity calendar were in may post from yesterday, and can also be accessed from the "Recent Files" section on the right have side of this page.

Also, if you haven't gotten a chance to try the tree climbing challenge from yesterday's post, today would be a great day to try, since it is Earth Day!

Have a great day folks!

Good morning everyone,

Here is a suggested daily workout for middle school and grade 9 students. Of course, you can always replace this suggestion with an indoor or outdoor activity of your choice, as long as you are either getting your heart rate up, or practicing some mindfulness or relaxation.

Today;s workout is called "Larry lost his barbell" and it is a countdown workout where you will begin with 10 reps of an exercise, then move on to 10 reps of each of the next exercises. Then when you get back to the first exercise, you will do 9 reps, 8, 7, 6 and so on. This one can be intense, so don't be scared to take a few breaks throughout the workout.

Have fun!
