Weekly Assignment... This week the focus will be on a Showcase Project

Now that you have finished your business plan, we need to showcase your business to others.  Traditionally, this would be done at a market hosted at the school.  However, given the circumstances this semester, we will need to do it online.  Using a format of your choice, you are to create a showcase project that will be shared on your website as well as bhsice.com.  Some of the elements from your business plan will be used along with some new tasks.  I have attached a PowerPoint lesson that guides you through the necessary components with examples.  Email or share your project when completed.

Weekly Tasks and Assignment... This week the focus will be on getting sales and finishing your Business Plan!

Task #1 – Social Media Marketing

We want to make a push for sales this week so you are going to use your ads as a way to market your products.  You decide on what social media platform(s) you want to use.  You may even want to start your own account for the business.  Remember back to your business model canvas section on customer channels.  You also need to consider the social media platform that best fits your target customers.  For example, Facebook may be popular with older people while Instagram tends to be used more by the younger population.  Pick one (or both) of your ads and create a social media post to promote sales.  Send me the link to your post(s) through email.  I will do my best to spread the post with the social media channels I manage.

Major Assignment (due May 31st) – Be sure to follow the PowerPoint lesson from last week on Creating Your Business Plan.  Use the Word document to complete the necessary sections [you may want to use Word online with office.com as it will let two people work on the same document].  When finished, save it as your company name and email me the document.  Your financial summary will reflect what you have accomplished up to May 31st although there is potential to keep this business going if you are interested.

Submission...

Task #1 – Send me link to your social media post…do this early in the week so you can boost sales!

Major Assignment – This is due May 31st…make sure all sections are complete

This week you will be learning about canoeing techniques.  It is unfortunate that we are unable to be on the water as skills are easier to learn when you are practicing them from a canoe.  However, the videos presented in this lesson will allow you to see the skill and apply it when you are in a canoe.  You will be exposed to the terminology used with paddling along with necessary safety skills.

NOTE:  Click on the globe in each slide to view the video.  I have also attached some notes.

ASSIGNMENT - After going through the lesson and watching the videos, answer each of the following…

1)      What are the 3 Golden Rules of Canoeing?

2)      What is the back of the canoe called?

3)      What are the 2 braces in a canoe called?

4)      What is the section of paddle that goes in the water called?

5)      Name 8 paddling strokes that were demonstrated?

6)      List strategies for safely launching and landing a canoe.

7)      Explain what you should do if you flip a canoe.

8)      Discuss how you would re-enter a canoe after flipping.

Submission:  Answer the above questions in a document or within an email.  Email your assignment to Ashley.Hallihan@nbed.nb.ca.

Assignment...  Creating a Bracket in DesignSpark Mechanical (see attached document for details)

Alternative Assignment...  Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist and inventor who liked to create overly complex machines to complete a simple task using a series of chain reactions. Think dominoes, ramps, levers, pulleys, and more! Your challenge is to watch some Rube Goldberg machines in action, get inspired, then create your own machine outdoors using natural objects such as rocks, sticks, hills, etc.  If you are having difficulty with an outside design, create some indoors.

Top 7 Rube Goldberg Machine Designs...

https://www.mnn.com/green-tech/gadgets-electronics/stories/7-best-rube-goldberg-machines-ever-built

Submission...  I have created a new tab in TEAMS called ‘Week 8 Online Learning’.  Using OneNote on mobile device and/or Teams on Laptop, take a screenshot of your DesignSpark Mechanical design and insert in the tab.  As well, attach the .STL from within the tab.  If you are not comfortable with TEAMS, send the screenshot and the attached .STL file to Ashley.Hallihan@nbed.nb.ca  For those who completed the alternative assignment, insert video of your Rube Goldberg Machine.  If you are having difficulty using Teams, send/share them to Ashley.Hallihan@nbed.nb.ca
