Good morning, everyone! I hope you are all doing well. As you have probably heard, we have some new cases this week in NB. Please know that this old virus is still with us and please, please, please, continue to follow the directions of our public health officials - social distance yourselves, wear your masks when you can not and continue to wash your hands. Be safe!

If you have not passed in your work for "The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas", please do so ASAP.

I am assigning work for you to complete for the next two weeks. So this work is not due until Friday, June 12.

One of the movies I suggest you try to get ahold of is "Schindler's List". This used to be avaibale on Youtube but it is no longer, but try to find it if you can. It is a film everyone should watch.

Suggested films to watch:

Well, you are almost finished your unit work for the Romantic poets. Last week, you got a little taste of William Wordsworth and read "Tintern Abbey". If you have not sent me your work for this, please do so ASAP.

This week, I am posting all of the work you need to finish for the nexdt two weeks. So you have until June 12 to get EVERYTHING passed in to me IF you want to receive the CREDIT. I CAN NOT give you any time AFTER June 12, so get all of your work sent to me BEFORE this date.

You will learn a little bit about the final poet for this unit, Samuel Coleridge. Now, he is a very complex poet. He has a bit of a sad story and, unfortunately, his poems were usually written during or after a drug-induced state. But, I am giving him to you this week to challenge you a little. Go through the steps I lay out carefully and slowly and you will be fine.

1. Watch the little video on Coleridge's life:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRJFT6d93FY

2. Watch the little summary for Coleridge's poem, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2kF3eehxOA

3. Watch this film of Coleridge's poem. It will make the poem a little easier to understand because it gives you a visual summary of what is happening to the mariner. This is a LONG poem but a good poem with a grteat message.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRGnoFf2cZQ

4. Listen to Coleridge's poem, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1raSUYAr0s0

This is a VERY long poem, but it is one of Coleridge's most famous poems. Listen to it as you watch the video of the words.

5. Read through the powerpoint on "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner". This is attached below.

6. Watch the summary on Coleridge's poem, "Kubla Khan".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZD4QL8o-q8

7. Read through the notes on the poem, "Kubla Khan". These are attached below.

8. Watch the video and listen to the reading of Kubla Khan.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrSDq49jqII

8. Watch the video depiction of "Kubla Khan".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKa136bgK9c

9. Complete the questions on the poems and email your responses to me. These quesitons are attached below.

AGAIN, this is a long poem but it will act as your final work for this course, so complete it the best you can and email your final work to me. IF you need any help with any of it, just call, text, message or email me and I will help you out.

ALL WORK FOR THIS COURSE MUST BE HANDED IN BY JUNE 12!!! This is so important so do your absolute best to get it all finished BEFORE next Friday.

Be safe!

So, you have finished reading/listening to The Outsiders (hopefully). I hope you enjoyed the novel. It is a great story. Some of you have not passed in your final chapter quesitons, please do this ASAP. For the next couple of weeks, you will finish off your year with some final assignmnets that go along with the novel.

This week I am uploading all of the work you need to finish for the course. So everything for this week will be due by next Friday, June 12. ALL work for the course MUST be passed in BY FRIDAY, JUNE 12 AT 3:00 p.m.

Work to complete by Friday, June 12:

1. I am attaching a final test for you to complete. You can write out the answers and take a picture and send it to my email or if you wish to print it off and fill in your responses and then send me your picture, that is fine as well.

2. I have also added a link to a nice site I found where you can create a free account and practice some little tests about the novel. I tried a couple of them and they are quite good. Please feel free to use this if you wish.

3. I am also attaching a little creative assignment for you to do. This is a t-shirt assignment where you must create and design a t-shirt for either the Greasers or the Socs. I am attaching the template for the t-shirt. You can print it off or you can trace it on to your own paper.

Once you have the template printed off or traced, you can begin to design your t-shirts. I have uploaded some examples of the t-shirts for you to use as a model as well.

Read through the directions and getcreative. I can not wait to see what you come up with.

So for this week, please complete the finall test and send it to my email.

I hope you all have a great week. The sunshine is so nice to see.

I am so pleased to see that most of you have completed the first set of assignments for our new uit on Romantic poetry. I reviewed your answers to Blake's poems and you all did quite well.

This week you will look at William Wordsworth and his poetry. Again, I will assign a video on Wordsworth for you to view and then one of his poems and questions to follow.

I have also uploaded an audio of the poem being read aloud to you. USE THIS! Foloow along with the poem and words to "Tintern Abbey" on your screen, and follow along as it is read to you. This will help you to understand the poem so much more. You should read through/listen to it read aloud at least two times BEFPORE attempting the questions. And if you need to read through/listen to it again, then do so.

Please email/share your responses with me.

As always, if you have any concerns, please let me know ASAP. These poems are difficult so let me know if you have any questions. Call, text or email me and I will hep in any way possible.

Take care and continue to be safe,

Mrs. J. xo

I hope you are all continuing to do well. This week I have assigned a great movie for you to watch. The movie is called, "The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas". It is a very moving film showing the Holocaust through the eyes of an innocent child.

Please watch the film and answer the questioned I have uploaded below. You may wnat to have the questions close by when you are watching the mivie or if you find this too distracting, you can answer them after you have finished watching it.

Please email the answers to the questions as soon as you can. The answers are due Monday, June 1.

Take care,

Mrs. J. xo

Well, I am so pleased to see so many of you enjoying The Outsiders novel. Although it would have been so much more enjoyable to read it together, I am glad that so many of you have taken it upon yourselves to listen/read the book while at home learning. Great job!

I am adding the next three chapters for you to read. I am also adding the assignments for you to complete. As per usual, please email me you responses. Also, if you have not sent me the work for "Nothing Gold Can Stay", please do so as soon as possible.

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying some long awaited sunshine and warmer days. But, I also hope you are enjoying your new two household bubble!

Thank you for completing your Cell Phone Character assignments. I loved reading them. Please continue to read from your chosen novels. You all know how important it is to keep up with your reading. It really pays off and helps your brains immensely!

So, if we were in school, we would be starting the unit called "The Romantic POets". Now, this is a challenging unit during normal school circumstances so it will be even more so for you as you are learning from home. But, please, try to work through the material as best as you can and I am always here to help you in any way.

I will start slow this week, giving you an introduction and a little video of the Romantic Movement. This will give you a look at what it means by "romantic poetry".

You will then watch a little video of  your first poet, William Blake. I always start with Blake because he is my favourite Romantic poet and I think you will like his outspoken poems. Watch the intro video and then work your way through two of the poems I have attached below.

Here is what you will need to do this week:

1. Watch introduction to Romantic Era video.

2. Go through the INtro to Romantic Poets powerpoint.

3. Watch introduction to William Blake.

4. Work through the two Blake poems, "The Lamb" and "The Tiger" and email/share your answers to/with me.

If you have any quesitons or concerns, just let me know.

Take care and be safe and I miss your sweet faces :)

You are all doing so well with the audiobook work for The Outsiders. I am so glad we are able to "read" this book "together" even if it is in a very different way.

So this week you will be reading chapters 7 - 9 and then completing a common Lit treading that goes along with the chapters and  little quiz for the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost that Ponyboy reads to Johnny when they are hiding. The assignment for the poem is attached below. Please complete it and email your answers to me. You will notice that the answer KEY is also in the attachment. Use this to check your answers but please choose your own unique answers in your own assignment.

* Do not forget to do the Common Lit reading as well. Read carefully and respond to all of the questions.

Again, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Take care and be safe.
