Notes

I hope you are all doing well and I miss you more every day! Please enjoy the lifted restrictions the government has given us but do so responsibly - we are not in the clear yet.

Okay, so some things you need to do this week:

1. Send me your Cell Phone Assignments for your chosen characters - these are due Friday, May 15. GO back in my posts if you do not remember what this is and find the details there. Any questions, let me know.

2. Last week you completed some viewings of Hamlet and did a final test for the play. These are the people who sent these to me so far:

Macaully, Landon, Cassidy, Arianna, Asia, Emma, Andrea, Reese, Anna, Kiara

IF your name is ot here and you sent it, please re-send it. IF it is not here because you did not finish it yet, please do so ASAP.

3. Complete the 2 Common Lit readings for this week. These readings go along with the Hamlet assignment from last week. Please pay attention to the connections with the plot and characters from the play when you are doing the assignment. DUE DATE for this will be next Monday, May 18.

Take care and be safe,

Mrs. J. xo

Hope you are all doing well and settling to our new normal. Please remember that we are not in the clear yet and to follow all of the directions from our government BUT also enjoy a few of the lifted restrictions responsibly.

For this week, I will post the audiobook for The Outsiders and you will listen to chapters 4, 5, and 6. I spoke with quite a few of you about how you found the audiobook and you all seemed to enjoy it, so I will continue with this.

When you have finished listening to the three new chapters, please complete the quiz I have attached. As before, you can type it up or you can write it out and take a picture of the answers, but just remember to email it to me.

Again this week, there will be no Common Lit reading. I will assign a couple for next week as they will go along with the reading from the audiobook.

Here is a list of those of you who sent me the first assignment for The Outsiders. If you name is not here. pleae email me your responses as soon as possible.

Michaela

Amber

Tara

Cayden

Tyra

If you sent it to me and your name is not here, please re-send it. If you have not finished it, please send it to me ASAP.

I am posting tongiht because we all need to go to school tomorrow to gather our things to bring home.

I hope you are all doing well and being safe.

Because only a few of you completed the assignment for Storming Juno I assigned for last week, I am going to re-assign it for this week just to give you all a bit more time to get it done. I understand that this is a very different and difficult time and things are happening all the time so I have no problem giving you all time to get it done this week. BUT it NEEDS to get done. I feel like I need to remind all of you that this course is a course needed for graduation so it is SO important that you make evry attempt to do the assignments and get them in to me so you will get this CREDIT.

Ok, so for this week, watch "Storming Juno" (if you have not already watched it). The link is on here from last week or you came search it up on YouTube and watch it there. Then you have to complete the assignment that goes along with this film. I will upload it again for you this week.

I also need to complete the reading in Common Lit for this week. The assignment for this reading will be posted NEXT week.

SO, get the assignment for Storming Juno done THIS week and email it to me ASAP.

As always, if you need me to help you with anything, email me, text me, call me or shoot me a message on Facebooka nd I will try to help you out.

Take care and we will talk soon.

Mrs. J. xo

I am posting tonight because we all need to go to school tomorrow to gather our things. If you are heading to the school, please be sure to remember to social distance yourselves at least 6 feet away (2 meters) from each other and follow all of the directions in order for us all to be safe. It will be good to actually see some of you tomorrow.

So, if we were in school, we would be reading S.E. Hinton's famous novel, The Outsiders, therefore. I am going to attempt for you to "read" this wonderful novel while we are at home. BUT you are going to "read" it in a bit of a different way. I will share the links to the audiobook of this amazing book with you in order for you to LISTEN to the book being read to you :)

So, for this week, you will NOT have a Common Lit reading to do.

Your job for this week will be to LISTEN to chapters 1, 2 and 3 of the novel. DO NOT PANIC - each chapter is about 25 minutes long so you should try to listen to a chapter a day. I will upload the links to the audiobook in the above posts - they will be on YouTube.

Once you have finished LISTENING to the chapters, you will then complete the little short answer quiz I have assigned to you. You can do this just in point form. Type it up OR write it out and take a picture of your answers, or do it in Google Docs (if you are comfortable using this) and share it with me. Whichever way you choose to do the assignment, EMAIL it to me so you can get a result for the assignment. DUE DATE: Monday, May 11 - next Monday

As always, if you have any concerns or questions or problems with the assignment, email, text, call or send me a message on Facebook and I will try to help you out.

I know this is a little different from what you have been doing for me but I thought you might like a change from the reading comprehension on Common Lit.

Take care and be safe. We will talk soon.

Mrs. J. xo

So this week is going to be a little more challenging as I am going to attempt for you to complete some of the work for Hamlet. Before you left school, we all read through the modern versoin of Hamlet with assigned characters for each of the characters so you all have to "just" of the plot. I am going to assign a couple clips for you to watch in order to refresh your memories on what actually takes place in the play and them you will complete the written assignment which will be shared with me on Google Docs.

So here we go...

Go to the following you tube links and watch ALL of the clips. When you have finished, complete the multiple choice test that goes along with the play. Complete the test in Google Docs prividing only the ANSWER for the question - you do not need to write out the answers just give me the correct letter for the answer. Share this with me and I will assess the test for you and share your results. This will be due Monday, May 11.

****YOU DO NOT HAVE A COMMON LIT READING THIS WEEL****

****Please do not forget about the Cell Phone Character Assignment I already assigned for you. This is due Friday, May 15. Some of you have already completed this and I have answered your emails so you know I received the assignment.****

As always, please reach out to me through my email or text if you have any questions or concerns.

Take care and be safe. We will talk soon.

Well, we are through another week of our home learning experience and you guys are on a roll. So proud of those of you who are taking advantage of this very new learning experience (and the majority of you are) so keep it up! You guys are doing so well!

I was really glad to connect with some of you yesterday. Mr. Sturgeon and I are now sharing the contact times with English 9 so get ready to hear from both of us now :)

I will post some new work on Monday but, in the meantime, continue to complete your work this weekend as the due date is not until Monday. Some of you are in the middle of finishing up your stories so get them in to me as soon as you get them finished. I have released your results from this week so take a look at them. Please remember to attempt all questions and be careful with your readings. Remember the tools you have learned in class - poetry is an oral art so read your poems aloud and pay attention to any of the punctuation. Also, for the longer passages, remember to re-read where necessary. If you read it through the first time and do not "get it", re-read it. These are all great reading tools for everyone to use :)

Contact me if you have any questions through email or text and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Enjoy your weekend and we will talk again on Monday.

Mrs. J. xo

Hey all! Hope you are all doing well and getting outside as much as possible. This is so important for your mental health. That good old vitamin D from the sun does wonders! :)

I did not assign any readings in Common Lit this week because I am giving you a couple assignmnets to go with the film I gave you to watch last week, "Storming Juno". I hope you took the time to watch this last week as you will nedd to do so inorder to complete this week's assignment. I will, however, upload the link tio the film again for this week incase you need it.

I am assigning a little quiz for you to complete for the film. Please complete the answers in word, google docs or even just in the email you are sending to me. Please send your completed quiz to my email and I will mark it from there.

As always, contact me if you have any concerns or questions.

We will talk again at the end of the week.

Talk soon,

Mrs. J. xo

Hello, my rays of sunshine! I hope you are doing well and getting some much needed vitamin D from the beautiful sun Mother Nature is giving us lately!

First of all, I want to congratulate those of you who completed the recipe assignment from last week. So many of you did this and it looked like you enjoyed your creations! We will do something like this again in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for this.

Your work for this week has been uploaded to Common Lit. You will see that I assigned two readings for you to do. DO NOT PANIC! They are both short reads and you will do fine with them.

You will also see that I released your results from your completed work from last week. Take a look at these and if I added any notes, read these and try to do as I suggested. REMEMBER, you have to answer ALL questions in order to get a "complete" on the checklist. So even if you are not sure your answer is correct, make an attempt. READ CAREFULLY!

I am looking at some ways you can read The Outsiders novel in the coming weeks and then you will do some fun assignments with this. More information about this in the near future.

I will check in with all of you at the end of the week but, as always, use my email to contact me. Some of you have been using Facebook as well and this is fine.

Take care,

Mrs. J. xo

Hey Peeps! I have uploaded your work for this week on Common Lit. You will see that you have two readings to do this week. I did so because they are both short readings and I know you can DO IT! :)

Please continue to read your books so you can complete your Cell Phone Character assignment. Remember, the due date for this is MAY 15. I have already received a couple of these finished projects and a shout out to those who have finished these already!

You will also have other assignments to go along with these books so please, please, please, read as much as you possibly can.

If you need to get in contact with me about any concerns you have, you know how to reach me...email, text, FB...I am here for you :)

Okay, have a good week. We will talk more at the end of the week.

A big shout out to those of you who shared your recipe assignments with me. Great job! Those of you who have done it yet, I hope to see your creations sent to me over the weekend.

Great job with your Common Lit work as well. I have started releasing your results for these. PLease take a look at them but know that they do not in any way reflect your marks in English. At this time, your marks are based on a "COMPLETE" or "INCOMPLETE" for all of the assignmets I am assigning every week. But please continue to answer your questions and complete your assignments to the BEST of your ability.

I will be contacting you all soon to check in with you personally to see how you are making out with the work I am assigning to you.

In the meantime, please stay home, stay safe and take care.

So I thought I'd share my little recipe assignment with all of you. My mum and I spent the morning making apple pies. Here are my pictures of our baking. As you can see, the recipes we used are very well loved. The dough recipe is my gramdmother's treasured pie dough recipe ( it makes a delicious pie crust) and the apple pie filling recipe is from my mum's favorite cookbook. Feel free to try them out. I can not wait to see all of your creations.

Talk soon,

Mrs. J. xo

This is the most up to date information we have at this point. Any new information will be shared accordingly.

I have assigned your new reading in Common Lit. It is a short one for this week. However, please read carefully and complete all of the assigned questions. I have started to release your results from Common Lit. This is just to let you know how you are doing, it is not a reflection of your "mark", I am letting you see them just so you know how you are making out with the assigned readings.

Last week, I asked you to find a book to read at home, hope you all were able to do so. Howver, if you do not have any books at home, there are tons of on-line options for you. you may even be interested in an audio book. Many of the audio book companies have dropped their fees during this time and made it so you can access their books on line for free. So check it out if you do not have a book at home to read.

NOTE: please read the WORD document BEFORE you read the PDF document Cellphone Character Project.

This reading assignmnet is needed in order for you to complete the new assignmnet I have uploaded for you. I ahve attachwed it below. Read through it. If you have any concerns, please let me know ASAP and we will make other arrangements.

I trust that you all received the group note I sent out through Preston. Please take this information in and carefully try to complete all of the work I am assigning. BUT, as always, if you have any concerns, please conract me ASAP through my email.

I have a few of you sending me some juournal entries and they are fantastic. Some of you are evn choosing to do a video chat entry format and I love seeing them. If you have not started yet, it ids  not too late. An entry or two a week would be enough. Just somehting for your older self to look back on and see what you tough and experienced through this COVID-19 pandemic. So, keep those journals coming.

That's all for now, folks. Try to get outside for some much needed sunshine and fresh air during this crazy time.

As always, take care and stay safe.
