English 9, English 112, History 112/113

I am posting tonight because we all need to go to school tomorrow to gather our things. If you are heading to the school, please be sure to remember to social distance yourselves at least 6 feet away (2 meters) from each other and follow all of the directions in order for us all to be safe. It will be good to actually see some of you tomorrow.

So, if we were in school, we would be reading S.E. Hinton's famous novel, The Outsiders, therefore. I am going to attempt for you to "read" this wonderful novel while we are at home. BUT you are going to "read" it in a bit of a different way. I will share the links to the audiobook of this amazing book with you in order for you to LISTEN to the book being read to you :)

So, for this week, you will NOT have a Common Lit reading to do.

Your job for this week will be to LISTEN to chapters 1, 2 and 3 of the novel. DO NOT PANIC - each chapter is about 25 minutes long so you should try to listen to a chapter a day. I will upload the links to the audiobook in the above posts - they will be on YouTube.

Once you have finished LISTENING to the chapters, you will then complete the little short answer quiz I have assigned to you. You can do this just in point form. Type it up OR write it out and take a picture of your answers, or do it in Google Docs (if you are comfortable using this) and share it with me. Whichever way you choose to do the assignment, EMAIL it to me so you can get a result for the assignment. DUE DATE: Monday, May 11 - next Monday

As always, if you have any concerns or questions or problems with the assignment, email, text, call or send me a message on Facebook and I will try to help you out.

I know this is a little different from what you have been doing for me but I thought you might like a change from the reading comprehension on Common Lit.

Take care and be safe. We will talk soon.

So this week is going to be a little more challenging as I am going to attempt for you to complete some of the work for Hamlet. Before you left school, we all read through the modern versoin of Hamlet with assigned characters for each of the characters so you all have to "just" of the plot. I am going to assign a couple clips for you to watch in order to refresh your memories on what actually takes place in the play and them you will complete the written assignment which will be shared with me on Google Docs.

So here we go...

Go to the following you tube links and watch ALL of the clips. When you have finished, complete the multiple choice test that goes along with the play. Complete the test in Google Docs prividing only the ANSWER for the question - you do not need to write out the answers just give me the correct letter for the answer. Share this with me and I will assess the test for you and share your results. This will be due Monday, May 11.

****YOU DO NOT HAVE A COMMON LIT READING THIS WEEL****

****Please do not forget about the Cell Phone Character Assignment I already assigned for you. This is due Friday, May 15. Some of you have already completed this and I have answered your emails so you know I received the assignment.****

As always, please reach out to me through my email or text if you have any questions or concerns.

Take care and be safe. We will talk soon.

Well, we are through another week of our home learning experience and you guys are on a roll. So proud of those of you who are taking advantage of this very new learning experience (and the majority of you are) so keep it up! You guys are doing so well!

I was really glad to connect with some of you yesterday. Mr. Sturgeon and I are now sharing the contact times with English 9 so get ready to hear from both of us now :)

I will post some new work on Monday but, in the meantime, continue to complete your work this weekend as the due date is not until Monday. Some of you are in the middle of finishing up your stories so get them in to me as soon as you get them finished. I have released your results from this week so take a look at them. Please remember to attempt all questions and be careful with your readings. Remember the tools you have learned in class - poetry is an oral art so read your poems aloud and pay attention to any of the punctuation. Also, for the longer passages, remember to re-read where necessary. If you read it through the first time and do not "get it", re-read it. These are all great reading tools for everyone to use :)

Contact me if you have any questions through email or text and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Enjoy your weekend and we will talk again on Monday.

I hope you took the time to watch this last week as you will nedd to do so inorder to complete this week's assignment. I will, however, upload the link tio the film again for this week incase you need it.

I am assigning a little quiz for you to complete for the film. Please complete the answers in word, google docs or even just in the email you are sending to me. Please send your completed quiz to my email and I will mark it from there.

Hello, my rays of sunshine! I hope you are doing well and getting some much needed vitamin D from the beautiful sun Mother Nature is giving us lately!

First of all, I want to congratulate those of you who completed the recipe assignment from last week. So many of you did this and it looked like you enjoyed your creations! We will do something like this again in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for this.

Your work for this week has been uploaded to Common Lit. You will see that I assigned two readings for you to do. DO NOT PANIC! They are both short reads and you will do fine with them.

You will also see that I released your results from your completed work from last week. Take a look at these and if I added any notes, read these and try to do as I suggested. REMEMBER, you have to answer ALL questions in order to get a "complete" on the checklist. So even if you are not sure your answer is correct, make an attempt. READ CAREFULLY!

I am looking at some ways you can read The Outsiders novel in the coming weeks and then you will do some fun assignments with this. More information about this in the near future.

I will check in with all of you at the end of the week but, as always, use my email to contact me. Some of you have been using Facebook as well and this is fine.

Take care,

Mrs. J. xo
