Another week has come and gone, and we are now nearing the crunch time.  Soon, we are going to have our provincial test and I want to make sure my students are as prepared as possible. This week we will be working hard on some demand writing pieces in french.  The students are conditioned to write their paragraphs using my models, but during their testing, they are not going to have this opportunity.  Due to these circumstances, I have to prepare the students in this manner before the big day.Mme Tobin-Forgrave will be dropping by our classroom on Friday for a visit, and to help me in the preparations for the test.  We always look forward to her friendly visits to our classroom!  Hopefully we will have a full week of school this week with no more snowstorms, so that we don't miss out on a minute of preparation time!Enjoy your week everyone!

Wow!  We are half way through the hard month of January already.  The nights already seem to be getting longer!  Now, if it would just get daylight earlier our mornings would be much easier. This week we have tons of fun planned!  First of all, Monday morning at 9:30 is skating with the Premier and our local MLA.  Then on Tuesday, MAD Science is coming to our school to give a presentation.  Next, on Thursday the class is going skating again with me for our Physical Education class from 2-3pm.  If any parents want to join us for this skate you can find us at the rink.  Finally it is Friday and then we only have one more week of the Intensive French program.  I hope you all enjoy this incredibly fun week!  I wonder what next week will bring for fun?

How many students can say that they skated with the Premier of New Brunswick?  Not too many, but the students of Grade 5TH can brag about this after Monday morning!Monday from 9:30-10:30 the grade fives and sevens will be going to the outdoor rink and take an hour to skate with the Premier and MLA Jake Stewart.  What an opportunity! Please remember to bring you skates and a helmet for this great occasion and that the skates are stored well in something that will not cause any threat to other students, or to the seats of your bus.  Remember that skates are sharp and we do not want to have any careless incidents.Come prepared for the weather, keeping in mind that it is the middle of January!  Let's show Mr. Alward what great students come from the "Home of the Golden Eagles!"

Grade 5TH was very fortunate today to have a very special visitor.  Paul MacKinnon from the District's MOVE program visited the students to give them an in-class lesson on paddling.  Mr. MacKinnon and I were pleasantly surprised to see so many students already having a strong background on the subject! We have tentatively booked February 7th to go to MVHS pool to participate in the hand-on paddling lesson.  What a great way to start off the English program and to break up the cold winter months!  I think I speak for the entire class when I say how excited we all are!  Thank you Paul!

This week, we took the opportunity to have a Show and Tell for each student.  They got to choose one item that they received for Christmas.  It was extremely amusing seeing all the great items that they received from loved ones and Santa.  Talk about some lucky children!

The big week is finally here!  Christmas Concert time!!  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and my Grade 5 class of superstars can perform at their best on Tuesday at 9am in the gymnasium.  I know they are very excited about showing off their claymation!I hope everyone is all set for the Secret Santa that my class is going to participate in on Thursday.  I didn't receive any emails from anyone, therefore, I am assuming it is all settled.  I know last year when we did it, the students loved it.  I am hoping it will be just as successful this year.I can't wait to see all of my students this week and see the excitement in their eyes and hear the enthusiasm in their voices.  This is the most magical time of the year, and I get to share this magic with these amazingly special students in my class.  I have the best job ever!!  They are especially going to be excited and enthusiastic when I unveil that Thursday, December 23rd is a half of a day for students!!  Merry Christmas everyone and I will resume my posts in the new year!  Enjoy the holidays!

HO, HO, HO!  It is almost Christmas!  The countdown is officially on, and the students are definitely all very excited for the festive holiday!  It is incredibly enjoyable to see all the excitement in all my students eyes as we discuss in french what they would like for Christmas.  I love this time of the year. Now that our claymation is out of the way it is time to work on our Christmas Concert song.  Just a reminder that next Tuesday, December 21st at 9am in the gymnasium is our concert.  This will be your child's last concert of Elementary School, so I hope you all can make the final hurah! On Friday we will be drawing names for a Secret Santa.  This is just a fun way to spend our last day of school exchanging gifts and celebrating the joy of giving.  Please only spend a dollar or two at one of the Dollar Stores, as there are many things at these stores that will make these children happy.  I look forward to spending the next week with my students and I will be soaking up all their excitement.  I am impressed with their dedication to getting their school work done even through their excitable energy.  They are staying right on task and we are being very productive for this time of the year.  Thank you class!  You are the best!

We are entering our second week of December already!  Our weeks are passing so fast and it is hard to fit everything that I want to get done in.This week we have a very busy week.  Our class is getting ready for the dance performance at JMH on the evening of December 8th at 5:45pm.  The bus will be leaving Blackville School at 4:45 to transport the students to and from this event.  Our principal is gracious enough to help take these kids down on the bus and I will be meeting my class there.  I hope all of you can make it!  It is quite a site to see.As well, Craig Duplessie from the District Office Technical Team will be visiting us on Wednesday as well.  The class has been working hard on designing their claymation project for this day and I cannot wait to see how it all turns out.  Stay tuned to our website, or come and visit us during the Christmas concert on December 21st at 9am to see the unveiling!Thursday I will be away at the District Office for a workshop for the Intensive French program, so from Monday to Wednesday we have to work very hard to reach all my goals for this super class.Thank you all for the amazing surprise birthday party that you threw for me on Friday...I felt more loved here than I do at home!Only 14 more school days...

Look at Daniel!!!  He was our first model for Project Runway in Grade 5TH this week.  He was such a great sport to model clothes from Mme Hale's wardrobe as I modeled how the class will play this game.  I can't wait to see what Daniel brings on Monday for Marlee to model!  The students are loving the clothing unit in the Intensive French program!

Today we had special visitors come to our class.  Mrs. Simmons and Mr. Savoy from the District Office came to give a Smart Board lesson to my class to familiarize them with using the interactive tool. The students were amazed with them!   It was wonderful for them to share their technical knowledge with my class.  I cannot wait to see what the students' presentations will look like after this lesson!  Thank you District Office staff!

November already!  I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween!  Please remember that you should only eat your treats in moderation, and not all at once.  Mix those small bags of chips with some fruits and veggies to balance out the good with the bad.Another short week this week as the students have the day off on Friday November 5th due to our Parent-Teacher interviews are held on this day.  The interviews are held on Thursday night from 6pm until 8:30pm and then again on Friday from 8:30 in the morning until 11:30am.  I hope all of my parents can come in and see me so I can put a parental face to the students.  If these times do not suit you and you cannot seem to work them into your schedule, please just jot a note in your child's EAGLES book and I will arrange a time that better suits your schedule.Enjoy the week everybody!  Look for your child's report card in their school bags on Tuesday!  I know nobody will be disappointed!

The last week of October, WOW!    It doesn't feel like we should be this far into the school year, but the chill in the air sure makes it known that we are heading into the winter months soon. I don't know if we can ever better the fun we had last week, but I am going to try!  We are going to have two Fun Fridays this week, a parade of costumes and a Halloween party on Friday plus to top the week off, Hump Day is a holiday!!  Please remember that Wednesday there is no school due to the meetings for teachers. As we start a new week, we always start a new book, and this time it is all about dressing up for Halloween.  For a closing activity for this book, we are going to a parade of costumes with the other grade 5 class, and I am so excited to see all my students dressed up for this event. Friday, as well, you are welcome to send in treats for your child to share with the class, but this is a voluntary activity.  We will be having a small "truc ou traite" session before dinner to celebrate the festive occasion and the end of our book. Au revoir pour le mois d'octobre!
