Greetings everyone!  Can you believe that we are rolling into the month of October already?  Four weeks until Halloween!  WOW! This week the students only have a three day week, as the teachers have to attend Curriculum Implementation meetings.  With my super class, I know we will still get lots of work done in these three days, because they are all such hard workers. My students will be finishing up their comic strips about a member in their family as a final project of the last book that we read, "Mon grand frère" which I know they are all excited to complete.  We are starting another new book that will teach them some of the terminology of Thanksgiving, that they will be celebrating with their families this coming weekend.  Quiz them during Thanksgiving dinner and see what they remember!  I want to take this time to wish all of my families a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving!  Enjoy their five day long weekend, and I will be very happy to see everyone next Tuesday! ☺

I want to extend a big THANK YOU to all my parents who made book orders for the month of September!  Because of your generosity I received free rewards to buy items for my class.  This month I am excited to report that I just purchased human anatomy models of the heart, brain, and circulatory and skeletal systems for our Science unit of the human body.  I also had enough reward money to purchase a family coat of arms pack for when we do our middle ages unit in Social Studies.  I know that my students, your children, will get much use out of these great hands-on learning manipulatives!  I couldn’t have gotten these awesome educational items without your help! Thanks again!!                                  Mme Hale

I had to do a double-take today when I sat down to write this message.  I couldn't believe that Friday is the first of October.  It will be Christmas Break before we know it.  This week we have a very special visitor coming to our school.  On Wednesday, Mrs. Barry, the district's Physical Education Mentor, will be joining our class in the gym.  I am sure that she will have lots of fun and exciting new games up her sleeve to share with our class. Wednesday, the district's cross country race is at our school.  We have lots of runners in our class, so please come out and support and cheer them on. Enjoy your week everyone!

This week, on Monday, the school participated in our first annual Terry Fox Walk for cancer research.  It was a great hit and the students enjoyed learning about Terry's amazing story and journey.  They colored sneakers and dedicated them to people that they knew were stricken with this horrible disease.  Our class raised lots of money!  Some students were so generous to even donate up to $20 for this great cause.  I would like to take this time to thank all the parents for their generous donations, Mr. Russell for taking the initiative to raise awareness of this issue to our students, Mrs. Hambrook and Mr. Muck for being such positive role-models, and all the families that came to the school to join us in our walk of hope!  Every one's kindness and hard work is greatly appreciated!  Check out the new image gallery on this teacher page of pictures from this day!

Week three already!  Before we know it we are going to be into October!  This week we are going to have lots of fun.  Monday morning at 10:30 is our first annual Terry Fox Walk for Hope.  The kids are all to bring in a twoonie to support cancer research.  I hope we have a great turn out. Tuesday we are having show and tell with three more of my students, and I am excited to see what they each choose to bring in.  Check the calendar in the EAGLES book to see which students are participating.  We are finally going to be able to borrow library books this week, and I know my students are all anxious for this. Cross country is underway now and we have lots of students in this class participating in it.  I heard through the grapevine that soccer is starting this week as well, but I will keep you posted as I hear more official information. Last week the students got to participate in their first "Fun Friday" where they play educational games on the computers to reward them for all their hard work in class.  I know they all enjoyed this part of their week and look forward to rewarding them for their amazing behaviour again this week. A big happy birthday goes out this week to Emily!  Your classmates and myself all hope you have a super day.  Just a reminder as well, that  book orders are due on September 24th. Let's have another great week Grade 5TH!

Wow!  Can you believe we are on week two of the 2010-2011 school year already?  We are having so much fun in Grade 5TH that all our days are flying by.  The students seem to all love the french program and I cannot believe the great class that I was blessed with this year!   This week the students' days will be completely in french which I am sure that they are ready for this transition.  Marlee is going to be our first "Mini-Prof", on Monday, and I am confident that she is going to be a super teacher!  Tiffany is going to start our week off with playing "Dans mon sac" and I am also excited to see how this goes with the class.    I am quickly learning lots of information about my class and their families as we are tackling the unit of "Ma famille", which is the first unit in the Intensive French program.  My class secretary, Laura and  the assistant secretary, Carson wrote a letter for the parents to explain what we did in the first week of school which will be sent home to all of the families on Monday.    I look forward to other incredible week with my unbelievable class!  Here is to another great week!   ~Mme Hale :)

What a terrific first day in Grade 5TH!!  I had so much fun with my students and was glad that I could finally put a face to the names that I have been working with the past week.   Today we sifted through our school supplies and organized student desks.  I want to apologize for having you buy a zipper binder that my class does not need, but please realize that these binders will not go to waste as they can be used in middle school next year.    Also, I sent home any extra school supplies that you might have sent in with your child that they will not use this year as I am trying to keep unnecessary items in my classroom to a minimum.  We are limited in our storage space and it is hard for the students to find their work in cluttered desks.   I am very excited to spend the rest of the school year with this super class, and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
