It's official!!!  The countdown to the end of the Grade 5 year is on.  Only 50 more school days and you will be saying goodbye elementary, hello middle school.  Wow, where has the time gone? This week we will be working hard on covering the curriculum in all areas.  The students will be given their Ancient Egypt assignment which they have five weeks to work on.  They are due May 12th, and I have provided a rubric with the project so they know exactly what is expected of them.  If they are anything like the Middle Ages presentations I will not be disappointed.  They were all incredible. On Tuesday we are to have the Science East Planetarium visit our school, and that will be an exciting experience.  Wednesday is our Health Test to finish our Digestive System.  Hopefully everyone will study hard and ace the test.  Friday will be the same ol' same ol' with Reading Buddies and Fun Friday.  Enjoy your week everyone and enjoy the spring weather we will be getting.

What a great day we had on Thursday!  We were very fortunate to have the Grade 12 Leadership class visit our school and teach the students a variety of different dances.  These students took their job very seriously, and the students loved what they had to teach them.  Great job MV!  All the students participated and learned many new dances...hopefully they will teach you some at home!

Crazy weather on the weekend!  Hopefully that is the last of the snow for the year and we can get on with what April is supposed to bring...SHOWERS!!! I am very excited to see everyone's Social Studies projects as we come to the end of our Middle Ages unit.  I hope that all the students enjoyed doing their projects, because I know I have loved seeing their creative minds at work! We will be now starting our Ancient Egypt unit, which is always such great fun!  In Literacy we will continue in our Mystery Unit, and as well working on our organization of our writing.  This is where many of the students struggle in this class, so hopefully I can connect with them somehow!! Thursday we are very fortunate to have MVHS Leadership come to our school and show us some dances, which will be our Physical Education class. Hopefully everyone will have a super week!  Enjoy!

A big CONGRATULATIONS goes out to our one and only Daniel M. who took second place for grade 5 students at the District Science Fair last Wednesday!  We are so proud of you Daniel!  Way to go!
April 1st?  Wow!  Can you believe it is April already?  April showers bring May flowers!  It will be June before you know it! This week is a short week for students!  Only a three day week.  Just a reminder that all Social Studies projects are due on Wednesday, but will not be presented until the next week, so if you need extra time than that is no problem.  I will be giving students one hour a day in the computer lab to finish any lose ends, so I hope they come prepared to work! Tuesday we have the pleasure of having African dancers visit our school.  I can imagine they will be amazing to watch and learn from.  In addition, on Tuesday, report cards go home in preparation for parent-teacher interviews on Thursday night and Friday morning.  Please don't forget to return your appointment request sheet before Tuesday so I can schedule you a time. There will be no school on Thursday and Friday due to curriculum meetings and parent-teacher interviews.  I hope you enjoy your long weekend!  Lucky ducks!

Bonjour le printemps!!  Spring is finally here!  The snow can't disappear quick enough! This week, Monday kicks off the Mango weekly challenge.  Don't forget to eat 5-6 servings of fruits and vegetables a day and record this on the sheet that was sent home with you last Thursday.  Then on Monday, bring the sheet back to me so I can send it into the District Office. Tuesday, we are excited to announce that we have an African Dancer for the day, who is going to teach us some dances. Wednesday is the District Science Fair at Gretna Green and we will be rooting for Daniel, who was chosen to represent our school at the fair.  Go get 'em Daniel!  We are all very proud of you! Friday we are very lucky to have a magician come and demonstrate to our class his talented show in both french and english.  How much fun will that be? We have a very funfilled week, so hopefully you will all enjoy it!

Today the Elementary School did a healthy living activity with an apple.  We all gathered in the open area and bit an apple all at the same time to make one BIG CRUNCH.  Mr. Johnson was so gracious to provide some educational trivial about the apple.  The students enjoyed this activity very much.  Thank you Mrs. Underhill-Brophy and Mr. Johnson for providing us with such a great event!
