See today's special Earth Day activity posted below.

Today, would be a good day to go device free for the day.  You could do something from one of the STEM challenges that you may not have had time for or give last week's art suggestion a try. Also, it would a great day to practice your juggling for Mr. Sturgeon's weekly challenge. Check out his teacher page for more details and a How-To-Video on making your own juggling balls. Do something fun today!!!!!!!

Happy Friday!

Today, use the books you gathered on Tuesday and Read-to-Self for 20 minutes. Remember to read the whole time and that there are 3 ways to read any book. Get comfy and enjoy the books you have picked out for your “book box”.

I am going to provide information for one last technology literacy site. All the technology suggestions posted are for you to try and see what one (if any) work best for you at home. Reading from real books is still very important.

Math - today would be a good day to check in with how you are doing with skip counting. Have an adult ask you to count by 2's, 5's, and 10's starting from various numbers. If you like to do paper/pencil work, on a piece of paper write out some fill in the blanks (see my example posted below) to test your child’s skip counting.

The link to today’s literacy site is posted below. Password info can be found in the documents. Have a great weekend!

Every Thursday will be our writing day! Watch each Thursday for a new writing suggestion. You can write on any piece of paper you have available. I am going to post a word wall that you can use to help you with your writing.

Today write a letter or note to someone. It can be someone in your house, me, one of your friends from school, or a family member. Remember to start with Dear and the person’s name at the top (just like we did when we wrote in our journals at school).

Be sure to ask them how they are doing. Let them know some things that you have been doing. Make sure to begin your sentences with capitals and end with the right punctuation (If you are asking questions don’t forget to use a question mark).

Draw a picture to go with your letter. Give it to the person if they live in your house or send a picture of your letter through email or messenger if they do not live in your house.

If students would like me to see their writing they can either email me a picture to melanie.sobey@nbed.nb.ca or send a picture through our Facebook group’s messenger.  I will send them a message back.

AMIRA Reading Tutor

This is a reading program that our class was piloting for the Department of Education. Students have been using this program since the beginning of February and most will be familiar with how to login. If you can, try to use the program 2-3 times per week.

Please watch the video posted for detailed instructions.

 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Mqp5cN5Dj37rSXu-3yO5H1G7ETIzYp1w/view

There is also a letter posted below with more information and a document with student’s usernames and passwords. The passwords are case sensitive, so only use lower case letters. You will need to have google chrome and a device with a microphone.

Limited Technology? Just continue reading from the books you gathered yesterday. Share your favorite part from one of the books you read with an adult.

Math – Watch the skip counting video and do the actions or practice skip counting orally.

Welcome to Week 2! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. This week I will be focusing on literacy learning, but please continue to work daily on the posted math learning activities as well (see this week’s learning plan posted below).

Today for literacy, your task is to find a basket, a box or a bag and gather up a collection of books that you can use for Read to Self (students know all about Read to Self as we did this daily in the classroom). Find a space where you can read comfortably for at least 20 minutes every day. Remember to read the whole time, stay in one place, and build up your reading stamina.

Since finding “Good Fit Books” at home can be difficult, it is important to remember that in Grade 2 there are 3 ways to read any book:

1.    * Read using the pictures to tell the story

2.     *Read the words

3.    * Retell the book in your own words

Remember that books can take you on many exciting adventures without leaving your own house. What adventures will you go on today?

Today please use any of the activities that were posted this week to practice your math facts for at least 20 minutes. Today would be a good day to quiz yourself and see how you are doing. What facts do you still need to work on? Get an adult to quiz you or watch the YouTube video posted below. Try to answer the questions before they reveal the answers. How did you do?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuDf1kzm0kw  - Video link to quiz your fact recall

The sun is out this morning so take the time to get outside and exercise before the snow comes. I have attached a link to a daily calendar of suggested social/emotional activities from ASD-N that you can try with your family.

I hope everyone has a blessed Easter. Take Care over this long weekend.

Students are very familiar with this program and how it works. Stay on for 20 minutes or until you get your green light.

Limited technology at your house? Try playing the game First to Add it Up. All you need is a deck of cards and a piece of paper to keep score. See the document below for instructions.

Don't forget about the weekly STEM challenge and Mr. Sturgeon's obstacal course challenge. Be sure to post pictures on our Facebook group.
