It is hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks left before Christmas!  As I am sure you know, this is a very busy time of year!  This month we have lots of things going on at school.  Some dates to remember are: December 16th-  My class, along with Mrs. Sturgeon's Grade 1 class will be taking a bus to the Miramichi Seniors Home.  We will be singing a song for the seniors, reading some stories and doing a craft with them.  I know we will have lots of fun and learn from the seniors.   December 20th- Band and choir night   December 21st- School Christmas Concert.  This will begin at 9am.  A student from our class and one from Mrs. Hale's class will be the M.C's for the program.  I will post who we have chosen next week.   December 23rd- Last day for students.  This is still a full day as far as we know.  It is still much better than coming on the 24th as the original plan was! Season's Greeting, Mmme Jen

This week, we continued working on our "dream homes".  Most groups are done their draft copy and have begun the good copy on large chart paper. We have chosen "Vive le vent" for the Christmas concert.  It is to the tune of "Jingle Bells".  We will start practicing this song next week. On Friday afternoon, we made a garland of gingerbread men/ladies.  We were asked to do so by our M.P. Jake Stewart for the Provincial Christmas tree in the Legislature. Have a great weekend!!

Last week we had a wonderful presentation by a very educated guest.  Jules Keenan of Grade 5 TH did a presentation for our class complete with posters and visual aids on diabetes.  We all learned a lot about Jules' life and what it is like to deal with diabetes every day.  This week we celebrated 2 birthdays in our class.  Happy Birthday goes out to Chad and Andrew.  We hope you had a wonderful day!  On Wednesday of this week we were wowed by the "Ocean's Wild" presentation in the gym.  Please check out our gallery to see some pictures of the presentation, and of us inside a WHALE!!  On Thursday of this week, he held our bake sale.  I was so proud of all the students.  They worked so hard to get ready for it, and were very selfless.  We raised an amazing $300 for David Wilson and his family.  It will be a great help to them as they travel back and forth to the hospital in December.  Good luck David and God bless.

We have had a few very busy weeks!  Two weeks ago students received their report cards, and we held parent-teacher meetings.  I was glad to meet with 17 of my 27 parents.  Thank you for coming.  Those of you that could not attend, please feel free to call the school or send a note if there is anything you would like to know. Last week, we were busy preparing for the Remembrance Day Ceremony.  Students from our class contributed by singing in the choir, and 3 of our classmates read the poem "Au champ d'honneur" (In Flanders Fields in French. ) Great job Janet, Kassidy and Jaime! This week we are beginning to work on our "dream homes".  In groups of 3, students are designing their dream home using their imagination.  We are getting some great ideas!  Rooms for pet giraffes, and slides rather than stairs! Also this Thursday, we will be having our bake sale for David Wilson.  Please send treats that are easy to hand out individually. (cookies, squares, muffins, or individually wrapped pieces of cake, etc.)  I will let you know on my blog how much we raise for David! Thanks! Mme Jen.

What a week!!!  We had a lot to do this week, including decorating our pumpkins and making witches out of construction paper.  On top of that we even had a day of to relax during the week.  If only all weeks were like that!!  After school today, there will be a halloween party in the cafeteria for students.  Preschool-Grade 2 is from 5pm-6pm.  Grades 3-5 will be from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. Tomorrow, Friday, students will be dressing up.  My students have Math, Phys. Ed., and will be playing outside at dinner time.  Because of this, they won't be putting on their costumes until after lunch.  If you are sending a treat for the students, please send at least 27 items.  Have a safe, happy halloween!

We are getting busier as the weeks go on!  I will be using this blog to update parents as to what is going on in our class.  Please check in weekly to keep yourself and your child up to date.   - In writing, we are describing, in detail, one member of our families.  Please send a photo of the person your child chose to school tomorrow.  If you do not have one, have your child draw a picture of the person.   -Tomorrow, October 22nd, we will be having 3 special guests in our class.  Mrs. Tobin-Forgrave will be coming to our class to spend the day with 2 teachers that are just beginning to teach the Intensive French program.  We will have to show off all that we can do!!   -Scholastic book orders are due Monday, October 25th.   -Next Thursday, October 28th, we will be decorating pumpkins in our class.  Please send a pumpkin to school with your child between now and Thursday.  If, for some reason, you are unable to send a pumpkin, please let me know.  My email address is jennifer.hallihan@nbed.nb.ca . I will make arrangements for any child that does not have one.   - On Friday, we will be having a Halloween party.  Students can bring their costumes to school, and we will get dressed after lunch.   You can send a treat for the class if you like, but I will have some treats for them as well.  We have 27 students in our class. Have a great weekend! Mme Jen

I hope that everyone had a restful, happy Thanksgiving weekend.  I know that I did!  This past week we continued working on extended families, and read a book about Thanksgiving.  We also learned a new song about a poor man that is in very bad shape!  We sang this song for Mrs. Hambrook's Grade 2 class and Mrs. Sturgeon's Grade 1 class.  The students did a fantastic job!
