Mots Fréquents: There will not be a spelling quiz this week for list 17. Students will be working on these words this week and next. Spelling quiz for list 17 will be next Friday.  This week, students should listen to mots frequents video and practice reading these words.

Reading: Guided reading books should be read every night if possible. Some students are not bringing their guided reading books home with them at night and are not reading. Nightly reading is very important for progression and helps with fluency as well as word recognition. Students will be keeping their current book for two weeks.

Math: We will be reviewing basic multiplication and division strategies this week and making sure students have a good grasp on three digits by one digit multiplication. We will be moving on to two digits by two-digit multiplication next week. To have success in this upcoming unit, it will be important that students know their multiplication facts. In grade 5 (by the end of grade 4) , students should know up to 9x9 and be able to give an answer within 3 seconds.

If students do not know their facts, they should be reviewed frequently at home.

Math: We will be reviewing multiplication this week. This will include basic multiplication facts and multiplying three digits by 1 digit. Students should know their multiplication facts up to 9x9 and should have automatic recall (give answer within 3 seconds) in grade 5. Multiplication facts should be reviewed periodically at home.

Reading: Please try to read your guided reading book every night. Nightly reading is important for word recognition, fluency and is needed to make progress.

Reading: Nightly reading is very important. Please try to read your French at least 3 evenings a week.  Students have the same guided reading book as last week. Some needed a little extra time with their books this week :) . 

Math Sheet: This is a three by one digit multiplication sheet which is a review of grade 4. It is very important that students who do not yet know their multiplication facts continue to review these at home. In grade 5, students should know up to 9x9 automatically and be able to give you an answer within 3 seconds. If students are struggling with their facts, there is a multiplication card at the back of their agenda they can use to complete this worksheet (only if needed).

Multiplication Facts

When working on multiplication facts, it is important students know these facts easily and quickly.  It should only take 3 seconds for a student to answer. Although multiplication strategies are important and can be used when “stuck”, it is important that grade 5 students know up to 9x9 automatically with skip counting etc.
