What a week!!!  We had a lot to do this week, including decorating our pumpkins and making witches out of construction paper.  On top of that we even had a day of to relax during the week.  If only all weeks were like that!!  After school today, there will be a halloween party in the cafeteria for students.  Preschool-Grade 2 is from 5pm-6pm.  Grades 3-5 will be from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. Tomorrow, Friday, students will be dressing up.  My students have Math, Phys. Ed., and will be playing outside at dinner time.  Because of this, they won't be putting on their costumes until after lunch.  If you are sending a treat for the students, please send at least 27 items.  Have a safe, happy halloween!

We are getting busier as the weeks go on!  I will be using this blog to update parents as to what is going on in our class.  Please check in weekly to keep yourself and your child up to date.   - In writing, we are describing, in detail, one member of our families.  Please send a photo of the person your child chose to school tomorrow.  If you do not have one, have your child draw a picture of the person.   -Tomorrow, October 22nd, we will be having 3 special guests in our class.  Mrs. Tobin-Forgrave will be coming to our class to spend the day with 2 teachers that are just beginning to teach the Intensive French program.  We will have to show off all that we can do!!   -Scholastic book orders are due Monday, October 25th.   -Next Thursday, October 28th, we will be decorating pumpkins in our class.  Please send a pumpkin to school with your child between now and Thursday.  If, for some reason, you are unable to send a pumpkin, please let me know.  My email address is jennifer.hallihan@nbed.nb.ca . I will make arrangements for any child that does not have one.   - On Friday, we will be having a Halloween party.  Students can bring their costumes to school, and we will get dressed after lunch.   You can send a treat for the class if you like, but I will have some treats for them as well.  We have 27 students in our class. Have a great weekend! Mme Jen

I hope that everyone had a restful, happy Thanksgiving weekend.  I know that I did!  This past week we continued working on extended families, and read a book about Thanksgiving.  We also learned a new song about a poor man that is in very bad shape!  We sang this song for Mrs. Hambrook's Grade 2 class and Mrs. Sturgeon's Grade 1 class.  The students did a fantastic job!

It is hard to believe that it is only Wednesday afternoon and the students are at the end of another week! Teachers will be in meeting Thurdsday and Friday for Curriculum Implementation days.  Then we all have a long weekend for Thanksgiving.  This week in class students have been learning about their extended families, and how to present these to others.  Rather than draw a family tree, which can get complicated and take up too much space, we have drawn our extended families as constellations.  We will be presenting these next week.  We are also beginning to learn about body parts, and drew a very interesting character together in class! Have a happy, safe Thanksgiving!

We are really moving now in Grade 5!  Our days are spent all in French, with very few exceptions.   We are talking about our extended families now, and some of us have very large families!  We are trying to incorporate some art and music into everyday to keep students excited about learning.  We are learning some tricks for reading, and have begin a word wall and a "sound wall" to learn ways to spell certain sounds in French.  Check out our image gallery to see some pictures of us drawing a constellation family map! I will not be at school on Thursday and Friday.  Mrs. Sherrard will be filling in for me.  Have a great rest of week and weekend!

On Monday, we had a Terry Fox run here at Blackville School.  The elementary walked around the building 3 or 4 times, and the Middle and High school walked the cross-country trail. Parents and family members were invited to attend, and I was glad to see some of our parents in attendance.  Please take a look at the image gallery to see some pictures of us walking our own "Marathon of Hope."
