Reading/Literacy Instruction

Last year, a new strategy in teaching literacy and reading was put into place in our district. The focus is on teaching students’ phonics/sound strategies to help promote reading. Because of this, reading is no longer taught in the same way parents are used to seeing. Students will continue receive nightly/weekly reading as part of their homework, but they will be choosing levelled books they are interested in, rather than bringing home books that are “their level”. I encourage all students to read at least 3 nights a week, they may also choose a book from home as long as they are reading.

Have a good week!

Fletchers Farm

We are headed to Fletcher’s Farm on Tuesday, October 1st. We are leaving at 8:30am and returning for lunch. Students will not be able to buy at snack that day.

Please make sure students:

·        arrive to school on time.

·        dress for the weather.

·        bring a water bottle.

·        have packed snacks.

Homework Bag / Folder

Please sign your child’s agenda each night. It is a good idea to take a quick peek inside their bag/folder as well. There may be notices, artwork or notes from school inside.

Reminders:

·        Please do not send toys, stuffed animals or makeup to school with your child. We are still having issues with these items being brought by students.

·        As a “Get Moving and Get Outside” school, we will be spending more time outdoors getting fresh air. Because we are going out in most types of weather, it may be a good idea to have a spare set of clothes in your child’s bookbag (just in case).

Have a great week!

Grade 2 is the best!
