The 2013-2014 Student Loan Applications are now available online.   Go to www.studentaid.gnb.ca   Be sure to read the 2013-2014 Information Guide under the PDF Forms section as there have been significant changes to the Canada-New Brunswick Student Financial Assistance Program. These changes are meant to simplify the way student loans and grants are delivered.   Applications should be completed online. Students must have a social insurance number of their own in order to access the application.   If you have any questions please contact me.

There are a number of scholarships coming due soon:   The J. Dean McAllister Memorial Bursary from the Miramichi Chapter of the Schizophrenia Society is due this Friday, May 25th.   The NBCC $1000 Entrance Scholarship is due to Mrs. Sobey by Monday, May 27th.   The Dungarvon ATV Club Bursary is due May 29th. Applications can be given to Mrs.Sobey.   The J. James Sturgeon Memorial and the Harold Ross Memorial are due to the Blackville Credit Union by May 31st.   Also St. Raphael's Parish is accepting applications for a summer student to look after the grounds. Please turn a resume into the office of St. Raphael's as soon as possible.   If you have ANY questions or need any help with your applications please let me know! Good Luck =)

On behalf of President LeRoy Stewart: The Dungarvon ATV Club will continue, this year, too award a Bursary to a graduating individual from the Blackville School.    Our Having said that; we compiled the following requirements for our Bursary: The successful Student be a Child (Dependant) of a current Dungarvon ATV Club Member The successful Student write an Essay of 100 words or less on the topic “Importance of ATV recreation” If more than one Essay is received then the Club Executive will decide which one will be awarded the Bursary. The NBCC Entrance Scholarship for $1000 towards tuition has been handed out to students. One student from Blackville School is guaranteed to win this scholarship !   Applications need to be handed into Mrs. Sobey no later than MAY 27th, 2013.   Students need to bring a copy of their acceptance letter to attach to their application (I can make copies for the student if they bring in the original).   Winner will be announced at the Graduation Ceremony.

Just a reminder that several scholarships have upcoming deadlines ! Please watch the dates and remember that the deadline date is the day that they need to receive the application. They do not accept late submissions. Also, if it needs to be mailed you need to consider the amount of days it will take the application to get to its destination. Get them done and sent well before the required deadlines ! If you need any help or have any questions please come and see me.

CUPE Local 2745 Scholarship - must be a son or daughter of a member in good standing of a Local CUPE Local 2745. Basis of Awards: graduation marks, aptitude, promise and need. Applications due May 24th, 2013.   Eileen Murphy Memorial Scholarship 2013 - must be going onto a college or university program, financial need, ongoing commitment to the Miramichi River, a 250-500 word essay on "Why is it important to preserve the Miramichi Watershed Drainage?". Applications due Friday, May 10th, 2013.   Northumberland Cooperative Limited - must be entering a college or university program in the Fall of 2013, academic achievement, extra curricular, community involvment, and financial need. One of last year's winners was Julia Astle, BHS Grad 2012 ! Application deadline is June 21st, 2013.   Copies of these scholarships are available in the Grade 12 Homeroom or have been emailed to the email Scholarship List. The Following Scholarships will be available in the Grade 12 homeroom tomorrow, March 13th, 2013 Credit Union Scholarships The Credit Union Harry M. Daley Memorial Bursary – Applicant must be going to a college or university. There is one bursary for a credit union member and one for a non-credit union member in Northumberland County. The value of the Bursary is $3000.00. Applications are due by 4:00 pm, April 19th, 2013. The Credit Union Harold Ross Memorial Bursary – The Student Applying or parent must be a Blackville Credit Union Member. The student must provide proof of acceptance to college or university. Applications are due May 31st and must be dropped off to the Blackville Credit Union by the student. The Credit Union J. James Sturgeon Memorial – Applications are due May 31st and must be dropped off at the Blackville Credit Union.

NOTICE – Please note that the deadline to submit a Co-op Atlantic McEwen Scholarship application form has been extended to Friday, March 15th.   Dear Sir or Madam:   The Board of Directors of Co-op Atlantic awards two McEwen Scholarships annually. Worth, $1,000 and renewable for four years to a maximum value of $4,000, a scholarship will be awarded in each of the following categories:   1.      Member or dependent of a member, of a member co-operative of Co-op Atlantic. 2.      Full-time or part-time employee or dependent of a full-time employee, of Co-op Atlantic or one of its member co-operatives.   The McEwen Scholarship is an entrance scholarship awarded to two undergraduate university students.     Deadline for application is March 1, 2013.

Any Grade 12 student interested in filling out a SEED application for a student grant (for summer employment) is asked to meet in the Electronics Room on Tuesday and Wednesday February 19th and 20th. I will help students fill out the application at that time. It will be the students responsibility to mail the application once it has been completed.   If you want to be considered for any job that is supported by a government grant (i.e. the ball park, the village, local churches, etc) you must complete one of these forms.   If you cannot make it to flex on these days please see me for an application or make an appointment and I can help you at another time.   See you next Tuesday and Wednesday !  
New Brunswick Women's Institute Scholarship Application forms are now available. One application form covers 5 possible scholarships. Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of scholastic standing, financial need, and community involvement. Two reference letters will be required; one from a supporting Institute member and the other from a member of the school staff, or clergy, or employer.   All applications must include an official transcript of marks and a letter from the applicant.   Applications are due March 31st. Please see Mrs. Sobey for an official copy of your transcript or for help with your application. Applications are posted in the Grade 12 homeroom or from Mrs. Sobey.

It is getting that time of year where scholarship applications are starting to come into the school. All scholarships will be posted on this web site, in the grade 12 classroom and will be sent out through the Scholarship Email list. If any student and/or parent has not yet signed up for emails please just let me know and I will add you. Also, it is important for students to start asking for at least 2 reference letters. You can ask a teacher, an employer, a clergy member, or a neighbour. References should not be from immediate family members. The following 3 scholarships are now available: 1. Bullying Canada Scholarship - Due February 28th. There are 2 scholarships of $250.00 and 1 scholarship of $500.00. The application is in 2 parts. The winner will be based on academic achievement and financial need. 2. Co-Op Atlantic McEwen Scholarship - Due March 1st. The value is $1000 for 4 years for a total of $4000.00. In order to apply the student or parent must be a member of Co-Op Atlantic or the student or parent must work for Co-Op Atlantic. 3. Dialogue NB Scholarship - Due April 19th. There are 2 scholarships of $1000.00. Students applying need 1 letter of recommendation and 3 copies of the application. On Tuesday, November 27th from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm over 50 Atlantic Universities and Colleges will have booths set up at Miramichi Valley High School to answer your questions and to inform you of the programs that they offer. All students grades 10 through 12 are invited to attend with their parents.   On Wednesday, November 28th all grade 12 students will be travelling to MVHS by bus to attend individual sessions and a Walk About.

UNB “PARENT AND STUDENT NIGHT” The University of New Brunswick will be hosting a “Parent and Student Night” on Tuesday, December 4th, at 7pm at the Rodd Miramichi. The information session will feature a presentation and a chance to talk with UNB representatives about admissions, scholarships, student life – and more! Interested students can even have their application assessed on the spot! The session is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about UNB – students, teachers, parents, friends, and family! No RSVP required.
