Daily task: To learn about the physical geography of Australia and Oceania

 

1.     Go to the following link: https://www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/oceania-physical-geography/

2.     Make sure to preview the entire text before you read.  Look at the map, pictures and scroll all the way to the bottom of the web page to see if anything catches your eye. ‘

3.     Once you’ve taken a peek around, begin and read only the first 2 sections. Stop when you get to High Islands.

 

 

See if you can locate the answers to the following questions:

1.     What is Oceania?

2.     What other 2 countries make up the microcontinent of Zealandia?

3.     What are the 3 continental islands?

4.     What is the Outback?

Daily Task-Use google maps to locate where in the world Australia is.

1.      Use the following link to access Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/@46.1985484,-66.3504067,7z

2.      In the search box type Australia

3.      Take a look at the quick facts box in the bottom left-hand corner.  What other island is also a part of this continent?

4.      Where does it stand in relation to the world’s largest countries?

5.      Find New Brunswick. What direction would you have to travel to get from Australia to New Brunswick?

Good morning grade 6.  It looks as though we will be learning a bit more about the continent of Australia beginning tomorrow.  Since we didn't have Current Events last week, I thought it may be nice way to start a Monday.  Thank you to those that are sharing their work. This week’s focus question is: What makes us who we are?  Think about this and keep it in mind as you complete each of your daily tasks. If you find information that relates to your question, remember to include the following:

·       the idea or thought that sparked your interest

·       where you found it

 

Monday

1.     Find a quiet place, kick back and read anything of your choosing for 30 minutes.  PS. You should all be reading 30 minutes every day along with your studies.

Tuesday

2.     Sign in to CommonLit. 

3.     Read posted article and answer guided questions only.

4.     Make notes with focus question in mind.  If you are using a touch screen you do not have this option, so be sure to put ideas, thoughts and comments on your device or in a notebook you won’t lose.

Wednesday

1.     View related media. Remember to keep focus question in mind to take notes as you watch: What makes us who we are?

1.     Use notes taken throughout the week and examples from the article you’ve read, the media you viewed as well as your own personal experiences to support an organized, final answer to: What make us who we are?

Hey grade 6.  Todays's reading is rather long so you may want to break it up over the next 2 days.  It does however, finish up our visit to South America.  Email me which continent you would like to venture to next:  Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe, Antartcia or North America.  Have a wonderful day:) 

Daily Task: Are you for or against the Amazonian Road Decision?

2.     Take the next 2 days to review the article.

3.     When you’ve finish the article, decide whether you are for or against the building of this super highway.  Write a brief response, backing your opinion with reason or evidence from the text. (4-6 sentences).

Good morning everyone. Hope you had a great weekend.  I released your scores for last week’s articles.  Those of you that did not attempt your work without contacting me will be receiving an INCOMPLETE.  It’s important that you continue your studies for your own well-being.  You do not want to start out next year trying to catch up on skills you have worked 8-9 years to obtain.  For the time being, we have limited control in our lives, but this is one thing you can control. Invest in yourselves…because I am 110% certain, you are all worth it. Aight, lecture over. 

This week’s focus question is: Why should we value our youth?  Think about this and create a list of reasons why it’s important to embrace who and where you are in life right now.  Then, keep your list it in mind as you complete each of your daily tasks. If you find information that relates to your list or question, remember to include the following:

·       where you found it

Good morning grade 6! Happy Friday!  I hope you all had a wonderful week.  Some of you emailed me a glimpse of the work you are puttiing in, thank you and keep it up!  Today is Current Events. Normally we share these with classmates, but since you are all home practising physical distancing, perhaps it may be nice to share them with a loved one.  I have attached the document to refresh your memories on what to look out for as you read.  Have a safe and enjoyable weekend with your family.  I miss you all!
