September 8, 2010   Good afternoon, parents and students of Grade 5 and Grade 6, Math.  We have completed our first two days of classes, in Math, and I am so pleased to see the eagerness from your kids, regarding this subject. Your child will be taking home a blue duotang, where monthly concepts and daily activities will be put. The students completed a form showing their style of learning and from this I will be delivering a curriculum that will be for all learners.  Your child will be talking about both the team work, group work and the hands on activities that they will be doing.   This will help your child see various points of view and will open up discussion on the strategies that are employed. We will try to do as much assigned work, at school, but there may be occassions that your child will need to take work home.  However, in Grade 5, the studying of facts and strategies will be a nightly assignment.  Tutoring, for Grade 5, wil be Wednesday mornings, starting in October.  Grade 6 will have tutoring on Wednesdays, after school. Any student who would like to have work reinforced, is invited.  R. Turcotte    Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.

Tuesday, September 7   Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful and funfilled Summer! This year, you will notice that our school will be focusing on 21st Century Learning and more activity will be happening via the computer. I will be posting daily, on classroom work, homework, upcoming events; for example. On Sept. 10th, student pictures will be taken. I will be responsible for the Grade 5 and 6 Math, this year.  As always, I will be having tutoring on Wednesday mornings, 8:00-8:25, for the Grade 5's and Wednesday after school, 3:00-4:00, for the Grade 6's.  The students are responsible for their own transportation, for these sessions. However, this will not be starting until October, but I will be available at any time if your child needs help. I hope that together we can make this school year another successful year. R. Turcotte Food for thought:...Watch a child conquer the world. Curiosity over a faraway object leads to walking. The need to voice an opinion leadas to speaking. Allow yourself to be a child again, discovering and accomplishing new things.
