Monday, Nov. 6th – root metre or metr used to mean measure
Examples:
Diameter – measurement of a line passing through a circle
Odometer – measuring the distance of a trip perimeter
Perimeter – measuring the distance around an object metric
Metric – a standard/unit of measuring thermometer
Thermometer – measuring the temp. or amount of heat
Tuesday, Nov. 7th – root rupt used to mean break/burst
Examples:
bankrupt – a ‘burst’ bank account
disruptive – adjective describing ‘bursting’ apart
eruption – the act of ‘bursting’ out
interrupt – ‘burst’ between or among a conversation
corrupt – thoroughly ‘burst’ morals
Wednesday, Nov. 8th – root scribe or script meaning to write
Examples:
prescription – document written beforehand by a physician
subscribe – fee paid to magazine or website to ‘underwrite’ production
indescribable – not able to be written about
manuscript – document originally written by hand
postscript – extra words written at the end of a letter
Thursday, Nov. 9th – root port used to mean to carry
Examples:
portable – able to be carried
transport – to carry across
portfolio – that thing which carries items (normally papers)
import – to carry in
export – to carry out or away
