Students have begun the short story unit. They have read the first story, "The Lottery", completed and corrected the required questions and finished a reading test for the story. The story is uploaded below.

Yesterday, students began working on the true story of Soraya M. Students began watching the film adaptation of this horrific story as it pairs well with Jackson's short story, "The Lottery", as it discusses a traditional ritual of stoning which is seen in both stories. The film can be found on youtube. I have uploaded the link to the film on the teacher page. Students will complete a three part assignment that goes along with this film. I will upload these l towards the end of the week.

Students have been working on some spelling and convention (grammar) exercises lately but this week we began the short story unit. All students received their definitions for the unit and we read through and highlighted the important information.

Students will have a test on these terms Thursday, October 1.

Students also set up their journals and began their first journal which is on the handout of the first story, "On the Sidewalk Bleeding."

I have uploaded the terms and the first story for the unit with the first journal entry. If you missed this information, please get it ASAP.

I am uploading the work for the week for those not here this week. Please do not worry about not being here. This is a very difficult week for all of us. Please take care of yourself. IF you feel up to doing the work, please do so and if not, we will get you caught up when you return.

I will get your textbooks home to you.
