Welcome to my teacher page!

In the past I have always used a parent email list however this year I will be using the School's Teacher Page. I will post regular updates for students and parents on this page.

We are now beginning our 6th week of grade 6 and below you will find some important details about what we do on in our class.

Each student in 6L (French immersion) has a homework duotang which contains important notes for each subject and also their weekly homework. Students are to bring this duotang to every class.

6L French/Francais:

Each week students are given a list of 10 weekly words (les mots de la semaine). These are words we use often in class and student have a spelling test on these 10 words every Friday.

Students are given a book each week. Students should read this book 2-3 times at home from Monday-Thursday. Each student will be evaluated on their reading abilities (fluidity and comprehension) to be at a specific level students must both have fluidity in reading and be able to answer questions/ explain the main points of the story for comprehension.

Each day in class we practice specific French phrases - students should practice these at home. Each student has a copy of these phrases in their homework duotangs.

6L Math:

Each week students are given a list of 10 weekly numbers (les nombres de la semaine). These are numbers that students must be able to spell. They have a test on these 10 numbers every Friday. At this point in the year students should be very familiar with numbers from 1-100.

Every week students will receive weekly homework (devoirs de la semaine) on Monday. This homework is due on Friday. Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the week and should not leave this until Thursday evening.

Every week students will have a quiz on topics we have covered. These quizzes are cumulative and will often have one question from each unit we have covered in the school year.

Units we have covered to date:

·         Integers (les nombres entier)

·         Place value greater than on million (la valeur de position)

·         Multiples, factors and prime numbers (les multiples, les facteurs et les nombres premiers)

6L Science

Students are currently working on their endangered species presentation. This is a research and presentation project that students have been working on in the computer lab. Students will finish this project tomorrow or Wednesday and begin presenting on Wednesday or Thursday.

Thus far in the year we have covered the reasons why something is classified as a living thing and also how we classify different living things. Students should know the difference between invertebrates and vertebrates. Students should also be able to list the 5 types of vertebrates and their unique attributes. Students have a copy of the living things classification chart in their homework duotang.

6O - Post Intensive French (PIF)

Our current theme in PIF is fall (automne).

Students should be able to express their feelings about fall and what they like/dislike about fall. We have completed our initial oral component and are currently reading the book L'automne in class.
